Home: Welcome

Amanda Hawes & Allison Hawes

We grew up playing in the woods and creeks of the small town of Ashland VA.  We were homeschooled which allowed us to spend many a day outside enjoying and learning about nature which also allowed us to pursue our passions to great extents and try many different forms of Art, through classes, other artists and by self-experimentation.  We recently moved here to the Mts. Near Spruce Wood, where we are looking forward to perusing our art forms and learn and explore a new kind of nature.

AMANDA

I enjoy many forms of the Arts, pottery, painting, knitting, polymer clay, photography & the art of baking.  I love animals of all kinds and enjoy seeing them in their natural habitats. Currently, I have been pursuing the art of “Kumihimo” which is an ancient Japanese 8 string loom braiding, form of jewelry making. In past years, I have entered my artwork at the VA State Fair and won 1st place in photography & clay making, and 2nd in Jewelry making.

ALLISON

I love nature and the outdoors, the sun shining on my face, exploring, climbing taking in all the beauty the world offers.  The nature inspires me to paint. I like to paint in an abstract way.  I have never been one to stay within the lines. Currently, I have been working on “Pour Painting” and have enjoyed playing with texture, using materials that most would throw away.  This past spring, I entered some of my paintings in the ACC (Arapahoe Community College) Annual Student and Instructor Art Exhibition Spectrum where one of my paintings won 2nd place. I am also working on creating my own kind of art work which are sketches with splatter paint, and I enjoy finding rocks and painting on them.  I try and see everything in a positive light and like to help others do the same.
